How long are the programs?
Language programs range from 4 to 52 weeks.
Will I get OIU credit for LLC courses?
No, LLC courses do not carry OIU credit.
Is a TOEFL score required as part of my application?
Although LLC does not require a TOEFL score for admission, prospective students may be able to use scores to evaluate their English language ability, and we use the score to help in our placement process. If you have recently taken a TOEFL, IELTS or TOEIC exam, please tell us your score on your application.
What is the minimum age limit?
Students wishing to apply to the University Preparation program must currently be in their junior or senior year of high school. Sophomores (students who will be juniors in the fall) are not eligible to apply.
Students who wish to apply to the Intensive English Program must currently be graduated from High School.
Students who plan to apply to English for Business, English for Law or English for Postgraduates must have a solid background in the discipline. Undergraduates who apply should have completed their third year of undergraduate study in either business or law to qualify for admission.
Where will I live?
Language Learning Center students may live in one of our contracted hotels in our neighbourhood with other international students.
Do I have to take a test?
Yes, students in the 4-week Intensive English Language course proficiency will be assessed on the first Monday of the program. Students in the seminars will be assessed by their instructors.
Will I get a OIU student ID card?
Yes, all students get a OIU summer ID card.
Can I use all of OIU’s facilities?
Yes, students in the Language Learning Center that have chosen to live in one of the contracted hotels can use all of OIU’s facilities, like the libraries and the computer labs.
Who is the Intensive English course for?
This course is suitable for you if you would like to become a confident speaker of English and maximize your ability to use English in everyday situations. The Intensive English course is ideal for learning everyday English with an emphasis on fluent communication and practical language skills.
When are class start dates?
New classes begin on the first Monday of each month..
How many classes a week?
There are various classes per week, varying from 2 to 4 days a week (class hours vary from 6 to 16 hours per week)
When is the registration deadline?
The deadline to register for language programs is 2 weeks prior to the start date.
What is an F-1 visa?
An F-1 visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows students to pursue a full course of study (18+ hours per week) in the United States. F-1 visas are only issued in U.S. embassies and consulates outside the United States. Prospective F1 students must obtain a Form I-20 from OIU Language Learning Center in order to apply for an F1 visa.
How do I get an F-1 visa?
An F-1 visa can be acquired outside the United States at a U.S. embassy or consulate. After receiving the I-20 form issued by OIU Language Learning Center, you must request an interview and apply for an F-1 visa in your country’s local U.S. embassy or consulate. We strongly recommend that you check the latest information at the US embassy in your country at http://usembassy.state.gov
What is an I-20 form?
The Form I-20 is an official U.S. government form that has been issued by an SEVP-certified school in order to become an F-1 student. This form is evidence of acceptance into a full-time program at the school that has issued the Form I-20. The school does not issue visas.
How do I get an I-20 form?
When the Admissions Office receives your completed application, tuition payment and financial sponsor documents, your application will be processed within two weeks and an acceptance package will be sent to you. Your I-20 documents will arrive within two weeks of being mailed.
